Summary

Gossip Girl meets Get Out in Ace of Spades, a YA contemporary thriller by debut author Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé about two students, Devon & Chiamaka, and their struggles against an anonymous bully。

When two Niveus Private Academy students, Devon Richards and Chiamaka Adebayo, are selected to be part of the elite school’s senior class prefects, it looks like their year is off to an amazing start。 After all, not only does it look great on college applications, but it officially puts each of them in the running for valedictorian, too。

Shortly after the announcement is made, though, someone who goes by Aces begins using anonymous text messages to reveal secrets about the two of them that turn their lives upside down and threaten every aspect of their carefully planned futures。

As Aces shows no sign of stopping, what seemed like a sick prank quickly turns into a dangerous game, with all the cards stacked against them。 Can Devon and Chiamaka stop Aces before things become incredibly deadly?

With heart-pounding suspense and relevant social commentary comes a high-octane thriller from debut author Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé。

Ace of Spades ♠️ “The deeper they dig, the harder it will be to come back。 And I refuse to let them bury me。”♠️Gossip Girl meets Get Out…I absolutely loved this book! My favourite character is Devon and I don’t think I need to explain why because he is an angel! Really enjoyed reading this novel! Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 。。。more

"Dreaming is dangerous" Worth the read! The execution of this premise is nearly perfect。 Throughout there is a great sense of mystery and guessing who's behind it was a separate ordeal。 The tension builds up well, at times I got physical tensed up listening to the audiobook。 The dual POV is great for the book, and both voices were very distinctive in manner, thoughts and reactions。 I easily imagined the type of people they are and how they even moved, that's how real they felt。 My only major iss "Dreaming is dangerous" Worth the read! This definitely fulfills the promise of being a twisty page turner and takes inspiration from the likes of "Gossip Girl," "Pretty Little Liars," "Get Out," and "I Know What You Did Last Summer。" It was one I struggled with putting down and pretty much read it one sitting。 I look forward to reading more from this author。 This definitely fulfills the promise of being a twisty page turner and takes inspiration from the likes of "Gossip Girl," "Pretty Little Liars," "Get Out," and "I Know What You Did Last Summer。" It was one I struggled with putting down and pretty much read it one sitting。 I look forward to reading more from this author。 。。。more

Well, that gave me anxiety but I binge-read it。 I've never seen Gossip Girl but I did get a whole ton of Pretty Little Liars' vibes。 Like a lot。 I was really invested in the mystery of it all (view spoiler)[though it all turning out to be a racism thing was a little obvious and the fact that the main characters didn't really consider that was a little weird (hide spoiler)]。 I liked how we have two black students that are from different backgrounds experiencing the same things from their peers a Well, that gave me anxiety but I binge-read it。 I've never seen Gossip Girl but I did get a whole ton of Pretty Little Liars' vibes。 Like a lot。 I was really invested in the mystery of it all (view spoiler)[though it all turning out to be a racism thing was a little obvious and the fact that the main characters didn't really consider that was a little weird (hide spoiler)]。 I liked how we have two black students that are from different backgrounds experiencing the same things from their peers and how it affects both of them in different and similar ways。 。。。more

Yes, we have an abundance of both problems, but if she truly wanted her novel to be universal, she could have set it in her own country。 But she didn’t。 And I’m sure she has her reasons。 And those reasons must be valid, for this is a truly ambitious, well-written, enjoyable novel。 。。。more

Incredible。 This book is so powerful and well-written。 Please read it。

This book was fully captivating。 This twist on a mystery gave me more socially relevant Pretty Little Liars vibes。 For lovers of twisted mysteries, this book is sure to give you your fill。 With LGBTQIA+ representation laced throughout the entirety of the book, it allowed for even more diverse groups to be included in the book。 I do think some ends were wrapped up too quickly and never really explained, so that is why it is a four star read, but I highly recommend picking up this book!

This was some effing good food!!! Growing up I read books like this but always with white leads and never about anything much deeper than petty popularity drama。 And I enjoyed them at the time, but a book like this with leads I can relate to, about things that I have felt, that is so real even in its fiction? It touches my beard deeply。 Too some, the plot may seem outrageous, but many Black people know it is sadly too real。 I was on the edge of my seat and blew through it in 3hrs! It was a good debut and I enjoyed the latter part of the book a lot I can say for certain it didn't start at the pace I was expecting, the plot twist wasn't that much of a twist tbh and I think that kind of killed my zeal to finish this book on time The main characters try to uplift the script but it doesn't work so well , Devon is pretty decent as an MC, Amaka is brilliant I loved her POVsIn the end the writing didn't really do much for me , the pacing was poor and it just didn't do enough for It was a good debut and I enjoyed the latter part of the book a lot I can say for certain it didn't start at the pace I was expecting, the plot twist wasn't that much of a twist tbh and I think that kind of killed my zeal to finish this book on time The main characters try to uplift the script but it doesn't work so well , Devon is pretty decent as an MC, Amaka is brilliant I loved her POVsIn the end the writing didn't really do much for me , the pacing was poor and it just didn't do enough for my standards of a good dark academia 。。。more
